What is the Site Sourcing Tool?
The Site Sourcing Tool is a filter-based search tool that generates a targeted list of sites matching your specific criteria. Rather than browsing the map manually, you define what you are looking for and the tool surfaces the sites that fit.
You can search by parcel size, ownership type, planning constraints, infrastructure proximity, amenities, and more. Results appear directly on the map and can be saved or exported.
The tool also includes a natural language AI filter generator. Instead of configuring filters manually, you can type what you are looking for in plain English and the AI will apply the most relevant filters automatically.
How to open it:
Open The Explorer on the left of your screen
Select Site Sourcing
Choose your search area (Map, Draw, Radius, or Council)
Add filters manually, or use the AI search bar to generate them
Hit Search
π‘ LandTech Tip: Try the AI search bar first. Type something like "Privately owned brownfield sites over 1 acre within 500ft of an adopted road" and let the AI configure the filters before you refine manually.
Search area options
Before applying filters, choose how you want to define the area you are searching in.
Map: Search within the current map view. Toggle on Search as the map moves and results will update automatically as you pan and zoom.
Draw: Draw a custom polygon on the map to define your search area precisely.
Radius: Set a distance or travel time radius from a point. You can search by straight-line distance or by drive time.
Council: Select a specific local authority area to search within.
Saving and exporting results
Once your search has run, you can:
Save your search to reuse the same filter combination later
Click any result to zoom to the site on the map and open the Assessor for a full data review
Export results as a CSV for use outside of LandInsight
Using data layers alongside the Sourcing Tool
Data layers cannot be toggled on while the Site Sourcing Tool is active. If you want to check constraint layers such as Conservation Areas, Flood Zones, or Article 4 directions, you will need to do this separately from your Sourcing Tool search.
We recommend:
Run your Sourcing Tool search and save any sites you want to progress
Close the Sourcing Tool, note that this will clear your results from the map
Open the Explorer and toggle on Saved Sites to see your saved sites on the map
Activate the relevant layers to sense-check saved sites visually
Click into individual saved sites on the map to open the Assessor for a full review
π‘ LandTech Tip: Save promising sites to your pipeline before closing the Sourcing Tool. Once you close it your results will be cleared from the map, so saving first ensures you don't lose track of sites you want to revisit.
