How to purchase Land Registry documents

While the Assessor provides a quick link to purchase titles, you can also buy official Title Registers and Title Plans directly from the map at cost price (£7 each).

  1. Select a site from the map for which you wish to find ownership details. The Assessor will open and the address and owner information will appear in the Details tab

  2. Click on the name listed underneath Ownership, this will be highlighted blue

  3. If this is the first time you are making a purchase, you will be asked for a postal address. Fill out the form

  4. Click Purchase. Once processed, click View Title Register to open the PDF in a new tab

You must have credits topped up in your account before making a purchase. See Fact Sheet: Credits and Usage Limits Explained for how to top up.

Postal addresses and non-digitised records

You might wonder why a postal address is required for a digital purchase. While the vast majority of registered land titles have digital documents, some very old properties that have not changed hands in a long time have not yet been digitised by the Land Registry.

If a digital PDF is not available, the Land Registry will use your saved address to physically post the document to you.

If your document does not download instantly:

  • Try logging out and signing back in to refresh the system

  • If it still has not appeared, it is likely a non-digitised record that is being mailed to you

  • If you have not received it within two working days, contact support so it can be chased up

Document pricing

As of 9 December 2024, HM Land Registry increased their information services fees for the first time in over 10 years.

Troubleshooting purchase error messages

Occasionally there can be delays or errors when fetching documents from the Land Registry's systems. Here is what the common error messages mean:

"The ownership information you requested is not currently available. Some title deeds may take 24 hours to be processed."

This is usually a temporary technical issue. The system will keep retrying, and you will receive an email with either a link to the document or a notification of failure alongside a credit refund.

"Your request has been acknowledged and is being processed... available between 6.30am to 11.00pm every day."

The Land Registry portal closes overnight. If you purchase a document outside of these hours, it will be emailed to you in the morning when their systems reopen.

"You have already purchased this information within the last 48 hours."

If your first purchase attempt was delayed and you clicked again, this message confirms your original request is already being processed. You have not been charged twice.

"Purchasing data is currently disabled for this account."

This typically occurs on free trial accounts. Contact support if you believe this is an error.

"Sorry, the ownership information you requested is not currently available. You have not been charged."

This indicates that either the Land Registry or LandInsight is undergoing maintenance. Try again later.

LandTech Tip: Always rely on the Title Plan over the LandInsight map boundaries for legal certainty. The Title Plan you purchase is a legally binding document that will stand up in court. The ownership boundaries shown on the LandInsight map are based on the Land Registry's index map, which is highly accurate for finding sites but is not legally binding.

What LandInsight does not cover

LandInsight provides access to Title Registers and Title Plans only.

Option Agreements are a separate document type and are not available to purchase through LandInsight.

If you need a copy of an Option Agreement, you will need to request it directly from HM Land Registry. To do this, submit a request using the relevant HMLR form and pay their applicable fee. Visit gov.uk/government/organisations/land-registry for guidance on how to request documents not available online.

Plan availability

Purchasing Land Registry documents is available on all LandInsight plans, provided you have credits in your account.
