What's new?
Customers can now automatically upload 100s of sites at a time into their LandInsight Pipelines using our new site uploader feature! demo below:
How does the feature work?
If you go into your sites pipeline and navigate to the top right, you'll see an 'upload sites' button. Click this and you'll see a window open where you simply need to select the site stage that you want your new sites to be loaded into and then drag and drop your KML or Shp files, then wait as the system processes the files.
How does this help me?
We know that (unfortunately) LandInsight isn't the sole GIS system that you may have use for as a developer. However, equally there aren't any tools available that provide the level of site assessment that LandInsight offers! So when there is a need to switch between platforms we want to make it as easy as possible to welcome you aboard.
β
Whether you're moving across from a competitor such as SearchLand, mapping sites over from Google Earth, or moving them across from an proprietary internal GIS platform you'll be able to do so quickly and with accuracy using this new service. By uploading KML or .Shp files into the platform, within seconds you'll have all of your saved sites mapped within LandInsight in their precise locations and immediately be able to assess them using all of the available data sets and tooling within LandInsight.
What file formats can I use to upload my sites?
Currently we're allowing customers to upload KML or Shp files. If you need to use another file type such as KMZ, just get in touch with us as we may be able to extend the service to accommodate.
How will I identify which site is which?
It's important to name your site if possible, before importing them into the LandInsight platform. KML and Shp files have different properties in their files that are used by LandInsight to map the site name into the system. These files typically take the site name from the platform they are exported by however, so top tip is to name your sites clearly in the initial GIS system, so that when you export / save them as sites, they have names that make clear sense to you (usually this is likely to be the site address).
β
You can check your KML and Shp files before important to see that a site name has been added as shown below:
βKML file showing site name field (<name></name>):
Important note: If you do not add a name to the site, we will initially default back to ownership data records to apply the address that we have on record for this parcel. If we cannot find an address, then we fall back to 'untitled polygon'.
β
Are there are reasons that site uploads might not work?
Yes there are a number, so I've listed them below for you:
File size too big - we currently have a file size limit of 100mb (this translates to around 100-200 sites)
Wrong file type - KML and Shp only
Too many files - currently you can only upload a single file at a time
Invalid file - if the file isn't complete it's not a valid file, check the file details
No stage selected - remember that you need to select a target stage!
General internet issues - in this case, just try again and it should work
